Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to strengthen cooperation between the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) on climate change research. It aims to improve access to advanced climate knowledge, data, and tools across Africa, while fostering climate literacy and the development of climate services and early-warning systems. The program supports capacity building and considers Africa's specific socio-economic context and user needs. The focus is on projects that help AU countries implement the Paris Agreement, reduce climate risks, and build resilience. This opportunity covers EU Member States, Horizon Europe Associated Countries, and AU Member States, excluding those with suspended memberships, as well as eligible international organizations headquartered in these regions.

Admissible Projects

  • Legal entities must be established in eligible African Union member states (excluding those with suspended membership), EU Member States, or Horizon Europe Associated Countries.
  • International organizations must be headquartered in an eligible region.
  • At least 40% of all project beneficiaries must be legal entities based in African Union Member States.
  • Proposals must follow the specified page limits and layout requirements.
  • Applications must use the official form provided in the Submission System.

Examples:

  • A research partnership between universities in Kenya and France to develop climate data tools for African farmers.
  • A collaboration between a South African institute and a German organization to create early-warning systems for floods in West Africa.
  • An international NGO headquartered in Belgium working with local partners in Senegal and Ghana to improve climate literacy and resilience training.
