Description

The grant aims to support organizations and individuals in the Autonomous Region of Madeira by enhancing the environmental status of coastal, marine, and lagoon ecosystems. This initiative focuses on the conservation and sustainable management of marine biodiversity and the maintenance of ecosystem services.

Type of Project

• Projects aimed at reducing marine pollution, including litter and lost fishing gear in port areas.
• Creation and management of marine protected areas, including Natura 2000 sites.
• Actions for the protection, restoration, and monitoring of ecosystems to adopt conservation measures.

Eligibility Criteria

• Scientific or technical public law bodies.
• Advisory councils established within the framework of the Common Fisheries Policy.
• Fishermen, fisher organizations, including producer organizations, and NGOs working in partnership with fisher organizations.

Eligible Expenses

• Removal of lost fishing gear from the sea.
• Purchase and installation of equipment for the collection and storage of marine litter and onboard waste.
• Creation of selective waste collection systems for fishermen and initiatives promoting circular economy in the fishing sector.

Examples of Eligible Projects to be developed

• Initiatives for the collection of marine litter and the removal of lost fishing gear, including in port areas.
• Creation of selective collection systems, recycling channels, and circular economy initiatives in the fishing sector.
• Projects focused on the assessment, monitoring, and reduction of bycatch, particularly of endangered or conservation-concern species.
