Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to support research and innovation for sustainable road transport in Europe and beyond. It aims to identify future needs in research and innovation, increase the participation of new and innovative stakeholders, and help share project results widely. The focus is on climate action, improving air quality, road safety, zero-emission mobility and logistics, and the digitalization of road transport, all in line with major European and international strategies. This grant encourages international cooperation, covering regions such as Europe, the United States, Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Admissible Projects

  • Increase participation of stakeholders in European road transport R&I activities, fostering coherence and inclusivity across the EU.

  • Map and analyse current R&I developments, identify future needs, and propose actions to support EU road transport innovation (skills, standards, infrastructure strategies).

  • Support development of a refined strategy for the road transport research infrastructure ecosystem.

  • Enhance international cooperation with partners in the US, Global South, and beyond, aligning with UN SDGs and EU industrial competitiveness goals.

  • Disseminate results from EU-funded road transport research, particularly advancing Green Deal, industrial policy, digital strategy, and Vision Zero for road safety.

  • Organise and promote road transport R&I events to stimulate future identification of research gaps, white spots, and collaborative opportunities.

  • An initiative to improve road safety using smart sensors in African cities.

Note: All costs must fit within a lump sum funding model and comply with the program's simplified cost decisions.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) involving at least three independent legal entities from three different eligible countries, with at least one partner from an EU Member State.
  • All participants must be established in EU Member States or Horizon Europe associated countries and demonstrate financial and operational capacity per Horizon Europe Annex B and C requirements.
  • The project must focus on promoting research and innovation leading to sustainable road transport in Europe and internationally. This includes identifying future R&I needs, engaging innovative actors and stakeholders, stimulating wider participation in EU activities, and supporting dissemination of results to enhance European competitiveness.
  • Standard Horizon Europe ethics, integrity, exclusion, and compliance rules apply.
