Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to boost new and improved testing tools for next-generation, climate-neutral aviation. The focus is on supporting breakthrough technologies for aircraft, such as integrating airframes with propulsion systems, developing lighter and more flexible wings, using hybrid or electric engines, and reducing aircraft noise. The opportunity targets the modernization of strategic wind tunnels and experimental setups within the EU to help test low-emission aircraft. Projects must not include investments in buildings or general infrastructure, but instead concentrate on technical upgrades and innovations. The geographic scope covers eligible European and certain non-EU countries as defined by the Horizon Europe Programme.

Admissible Projects

  • Must support the vision for climate-neutral aviation by 2050.
  • Should build on or complement other EU and national projects where possible.
  • If several testing facilities are involved, must define how they connect and share data.
  • Must follow specific application rules, including page limits and layout.
  • Should focus on technical improvements, not on buildings or auxiliary facilities.

Example projects:

  • Upgrading a wind tunnel with new sensors to test electric aircraft designs.
  • Developing common data formats for sharing results between several European test centers.
  • Adapting an existing test facility to simulate the aerodynamics of flexible, high-aspect-ratio wings.

Eligible Expenses

  • Purchase and installation of advanced measurement equipment
  • Upgrading control and data acquisition systems in wind tunnels
  • Software development for simulation and data analysis
  • Costs for adapting test benches for hybrid/electric propulsion systems
  • Integration of new sensors and monitoring devices
  • Personnel costs directly related to technical upgrades
  • Materials and supplies for experimental setups
  • Travel for project meetings and technical coordination
  • Dissemination and communication activities

Restrictions: Investments in buildings or general-purpose facilities are not eligible.

Financial Information

  • Budget for this Call: 15.000.000
  • Number of Grants attributed: 1

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be from countries eligible under the Horizon Europe Programme.
  • Some non-EU and non-Associated Countries may also be eligible if they meet special provisions.
  • Applicants must have the financial and operational capacity to carry out the project.
  • Proposals must comply with all application guidelines, including format and page limits.
  • Eligibility may depend on forming partnerships or networks, especially if multiple testing facilities are involved.
  • Applicants must not be subject to exclusion criteria as defined by the programme.
