Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to develop and demonstrate advanced, cost-effective, and safe wireless charging solutions for light-duty vehicles. The focus is on achieving at least 90% efficiency for both charging and discharging, while ensuring robust operation under various environmental conditions such as humidity and dirt. Projects should also integrate these systems with renewable energy sources and grid balancing, and include environmental and cost-benefit analyses. Solutions must be tested in at least three different urban areas across eligible countries, considering diverse climates, to build societal trust and acceptance. Only urban demonstrations are eligible; peri-urban and rural areas are excluded.

Admissible Projects

  • Projects must design, develop, and demonstrate bi-directional wireless charging solutions for light-duty vehicles.
  • Demonstrations must take place in at least three different urban areas within eligible Horizon Europe countries, each with different climatic conditions.
  • Proposals must follow the specified page limits and layout in the Application Form.
  • Projects should aim for high efficiency, safety, and compliance with international standards.
  • Integration with renewable energy and grid balancing is required.
  • The Joint Research Centre (JRC) may participate as a consortium member, subject to restrictions.

Examples:

  • A project installing wireless charging pads in three European cities with varying climates, integrating them with local solar power grids.
  • A consortium demonstrating a standardized wireless charging system for delivery vans in urban centers, focusing on safety and efficiency.
  • Developing and testing a robust wireless charging network for taxis in cities with different weather conditions, including analysis of cost and environmental benefits.

Eligible Expenses

  • Personnel costs
  • Subcontracting
  • Travel and subsistence
  • Equipment (depreciation or rental)
  • Consumables and materials
  • Dissemination and communication
  • Access to research infrastructure
  • IPR and certification
  • Audit costs
  • Indirect costs (25% flat rate)
  • Internally invoiced services

Financial Information

  • Budget for this Call: 10.000.000
  • Number of Grants attributed: 2
  • Budget per project: 5.000.000

Eligibility Criteria

  • Only legal entities established in EU Member States or Horizon-associated countries (as per Horizon Europe Annex B) are eligible to participate.

  • Applicants must form a consortium of at least three independent legal entities, each from a different eligible country, with at least one organisation based in an EU Member State.

  • Every partner must demonstrate financial and operational capacity in accordance with Annex C of the Horizon Europe Model Grant Agreement.

  • Project proposals must directly address the objectives of the 2ZERO Partnership, specifically demonstrating bidirectional wireless charging solutions for Light‑Duty Vehicles that are interoperable, robust against environmental conditions, minimize energy losses, and maximize recyclability of materials.

  • Projects must operate at an appropriate Technology Readiness Level (TRL) as defined in the topic text, typically targeting demonstration-ready systems ready for early deployment.

  • Standard Horizon Europe ethics, integrity, exclusion, conflict-of-interest and legal compliance checks apply to all proposals
