Optimal integrated onboard renewable energy solutions, by considering Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems (ZEWT Partnership)

The main goal of this opportunity is to advance and showcase integrated onboard renewable energy solutions, with a strong focus on Wind-Assisted Propulsion (WAP) systems for ships. It aims to develop standardized methods for monitoring and verifying the energy and emissions savings from WAP devices. The opportunity also seeks to address the challenges of scaling, adapting, and safely integrating these systems with other clean technologies. Additionally, it supports market uptake by building business cases and increasing confidence in WAP solutions, while boosting innovation and competitiveness in the EU waterborne sector. Projects are expected to contribute to the EU’s strategy for economic security and environmental sustainability.

• Projects must demonstrate full-scale Wind-Assisted Propulsion (WAP) solutions onboard vessels.
• They should develop frameworks for design optimization and advanced monitoring systems for WAP.
• Proposals must include standardized methods for environmental assessment and emission reduction verification.
• Projects need to address scalability, adaptability, and safety of WAP integration with other low and zero-emission technologies.
• They should work on solutions to improve market confidence and promote the uptake of WAP systems.
