Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to build a strong and visible European Generative AI (GenAI) ecosystem. It aims to foster collaboration and innovation across strategic sectors, support the adoption of European GenAI solutions, and promote trustworthy AI for maximum societal and economic benefits. The initiative focuses on partnerships with AI Factories, Data Spaces, and the European Commission's AI Office. Key sectors include robotics, manufacturing, automotive, energy, and pharmaceuticals, with an emphasis on developing GenAI models, improving data access and interoperability, and stimulating innovation. Eligible applicants are from EU Member States, Iceland, Norway, associated countries, and OECD countries, except those controlled by non-eligible entities.

Admissible Projects

  • Serve as the central Hub coordinating the GenAI4EU ecosystem across EU-funded AI/Data/Robotics & Virtual Worlds initiatives.

  • Provide organizational support, technical alignment, and strategic liaison between GenAI4EU projects, Virtual Worlds initiatives, and AI/Robo partnerships.

  • Promote sharing of results and best practices across EU R&I projects through platforms like the AI-on-demand platform.

  • Build synergies and collaboration with past and ongoing projects in relevant digital, AI, robotics, and virtual worlds domains.

Example Projects:

  • A cross-sector partnership developing GenAI models for the European automotive industry, ensuring all partners are from eligible countries.
  • A collaborative project between an AI Factory and a pharmaceutical company in Norway, focusing on data interoperability for drug discovery.
  • A robotics consortium in the EU proposing a GenAI solution, with all members demonstrating operational and financial capacity.

  • Lump sum contributions for project activities
  • Personnel costs directly related to project tasks

Restrictions: Only expenses directly related to the approved project activities are eligible. All costs must comply with the lump sum funding rules of the Horizon Europe Programme.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Consortium must include at least three independent legal entities from three different eligible countries, with at least one based in an EU Member State

  • Action type is Coordination and Support Action (CSA)

  • Project must act as a central hub for the GenAI4EU initiative, supporting coordination, visibility, knowledge exchange, and ecosystem building

  • Must involve stakeholders from industry, research, startups, and end-users across multiple sectors

  • Proposals must align with EU goals for trustworthy and human-centric AI

  • Standard Horizon Europe rules apply: ethics, conflicts of interest, exclusions, data protection, and legal compliance.
