Description

The main goal of this grant is to foster innovation in biotechnology and biomanufacturing to address economic security risks and global challenges, including climate change and biodiversity protection. The opportunity aims to increase the use of bio-based solutions, improve environmental sustainability, and develop a shared vision and research agenda for the EU. Focus areas include industrial, environmental, marine, and agri-food biotechnology, with a strong emphasis on sustainable biomass management, carbon removal, and the creation of circular, climate-neutral bio-based materials. International cooperation with countries like the United States, Japan, South Korea, and India is encouraged, alongside involvement from EU Member States and eligible non-EU partners.

Admissible Projects

  • Projects must align with the focus areas of industrial, environmental, marine, or agri-food biotechnology (excluding health biotechnology).
  • Proposals should address sustainable biomass management, carbon removal, or the development of innovative bio-based materials or products.
  • Projects must contribute to environmental sustainability and circular, climate-neutral solutions.
  • International cooperation is encouraged, particularly with specified partner countries.
  • Projects should follow the required proposal format and page limits.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial and operational capacity.

Examples:

  • Developing a new biomanufacturing process that uses agricultural waste to produce biodegradable plastics.
  • Creating a marine biotechnology solution for carbon capture and storage.
  • Piloting a circular bio-based product in collaboration with partners from the EU and Japan.
