Description
The main goal of this opportunity is to support the preparation of proposals for Strategic Nature Projects that help implement nature and biodiversity strategies at large territorial scales. The focus is on aligning with EU nature and biodiversity policies through Priority Action Frameworks, National Restoration Plans, or similar strategies. Projects should involve all relevant stakeholders and set up coordination mechanisms for funding complementary measures. This funding is available for projects at international, national, regional, or multiregional levels within eligible countries. The aim is to ensure the full implementation of targeted plans that contribute to the protection and restoration of nature.
Admissible Projects
- Projects must prepare proposals for Strategic Nature Projects (SNAPs).
- They must support the implementation of Priority Action Frameworks (PAFs), National Restoration Plans, or other approved strategies.
- Projects should operate at international, national, regional, or multiregional levels.
- Alignment with EU nature and biodiversity policies is required.
- All relevant stakeholders must be involved in the project.
- A coordination mechanism for funding complementary measures must be included.
Examples:
- A regional government preparing a proposal to restore wetlands in line with a National Restoration Plan.
- An international partnership developing a strategy to protect migratory bird habitats across several countries.
- A national agency coordinating with local organizations to implement a Priority Action Framework for forest conservation.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants: Public or private legal entities located in EU Member States, overseas territories, EEA, or other LIFE-associated countries. The coordinator must be from an eligible country.

Scope: The project must support the preparation of a SNAP proposal, ensuring it’s eligible under the upcoming SNAP call (concept note + full proposal).

Project alignment: Targeted at a Prioritised Action Framework (PAF) or equivalent nature/biodiversity strategy that is adopted by the date of full proposal submission.
