Description

The main goal of this grant is to support the acquisition of advanced scientific and technological equipment and infrastructure needed to strengthen research and development in the Azores. It focuses on filling gaps in the capabilities of regional research entities, ensuring they remain competitive and continue to contribute to knowledge, innovation, and social progress. The opportunity targets projects that promote excellence in research and innovation, aligned with the smart specialization strategy for the Azores. Only projects within the Autonomous Region of the Azores are eligible.

Admissible Projects

  • Projects must be submitted by non-business entities that are part of the Azores Scientific and Technological System (SCTA) and listed in the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures of Strategic Interest (RNIIIE).
  • The project must involve the acquisition of scientific or technological equipment directly supporting research and innovation, aligned with the RIS3 Azores strategy.
  • Total project cost must be between €200,000.01 and €287,520.00.
  • Projects must align with the objectives of the notice and be verified using the Quantitative Alignment Indicator (IQA).
  • Only one application per infrastructure is allowed, and the project must be submitted individually.
  • The project must be completed within 12 months unless an exception is justified and accepted.
  • A responsible investigator with a doctoral degree must be identified and meet participation restrictions.
  • All required documentation must be submitted, including justification for the acquisition and compliance with environmental and accessibility standards.

  • A university research center in the Azores acquires a new high-resolution microscope to enhance marine biology studies.
  • A regional technology institute upgrades its data processing systems to support climate modeling research.
  • A scientific laboratory purchases specialized sensors and software for monitoring volcanic activity on the islands.

  • Expenses paid by the beneficiary and supported by invoices

Restrictions: Only real, direct costs are eligible. Indirect costs, recoverable VAT, previously co-financed equipment, cash payments over €250, and expenses funded by other programs are not eligible.

  • Co-financing rate: up to 85% from the FEDER fund
  • Maximum per project: €287,520.00
  • Minimum per project: €200,000.01
  • Maximum project duration: 12 months

Payments are made as reimbursements for eligible costs incurred and paid. Certain expenses, such as indirect costs and recoverable VAT, are not eligible. Projects must align with the RIS3 Açores strategy and involve entities listed in the national research infrastructure roadmap.

  • Project must not have started before approval.
