Multiband 4D Radar

The main goal of this opportunity is to develop a technology demonstrator that will serve as the foundation for a future multiband 4D radar system. This system is designed to enhance the ability of defense forces to conduct sea, land, air, and space operations simultaneously. It aims to improve situational awareness, support the detection of advanced threats, and enable seamless integration with naval and air surveillance command systems. Key focus areas include intelligent electromagnetic spectrum management, advanced communication links, integration into combat management systems, and autonomous operations with cognitive capabilities. The opportunity is open to projects based in EU Member States and EDF Associated Countries and emphasizes collaboration within the EU defense industry.

• Projects must demonstrate essential elements for future EU naval radar systems.
• They should focus on intelligent electromagnetic spectrum management and bidirectional communication links.
• Projects must ensure full system integration into combat management systems.
• Activities should include autonomous systems with cognitive capabilities.
• Eligible actions include studies, design, prototyping, testing, qualification, certification, and technology development for lifecycle efficiency.

• Developing a prototype radar system that integrates with naval combat management platforms and tests its ability to detect stealth aircraft.
• Designing and testing a communication link that allows real-time data exchange between radar and command systems for joint air and sea operations.
• Conducting studies and simulations to optimize spectrum management in a multi-domain defense environment.

• Activities to increase interoperability and resilience (e.g., secure data production and exchange, mastering critical technologies, strengthening supply security).
• Feasibility studies for new or upgraded products, technologies, or services.
• Design of defence products, components, or technologies (including technical specifications and risk-reduction tests).
• System prototyping for defence-related products or technologies.
• Testing, qualification, and certification of products, components, or technologies.
• Development of technologies or assets to improve lifecycle efficiency of defence products.

Budget for this grant: 29,500,000€
