Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to support adaptation efforts in coastal regions most affected by climate change. It aims to increase climate resilience in these areas by demonstrating innovative solutions that protect citizens and local activities. The focus is on nature-based and digital solutions to tackle challenges such as sea level rise, coastal erosion, and saltwater intrusion. Projects should ensure equity, inclusivity, and consider long-term climate impacts. Eligible activities must take place in coastal regions across at least three different EU Member States or Associated Countries, with special attention to hotspot areas like Southern Europe, low-lying coasts, and outermost regions.

Admissible Projects

  • Projects must carry out demonstration activities in at least three different coastal regional or local authorities, each in a separate Member State or Associated Country.
  • At least one demonstration site must be in a hotspot area such as Southern Europe, low-lying coastal regions, or an outermost EU region.
  • Projects must identify at least three additional coastal authorities from three different countries to prepare frameworks for replicating the solutions.
  • Solutions must be co-designed with local stakeholders, considering social, economic, and population impacts.
  • Projects must address issues like sea level rise, coastal erosion, and saltwater intrusion, ensuring equity and inclusivity.
  • Applicants must collaborate with relevant platforms and participate in networking and knowledge-sharing activities.

Example Projects:

  • A project demonstrating digital flood warning systems in Spain, the Netherlands, and France, with plans for replication in Greece, Portugal, and Italy.
  • A nature-based coastal restoration initiative in Southern Italy, Denmark, and Cyprus, with replication frameworks for Ireland, Germany, and Malta.
