Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to support research and innovation that tackles diseases and reduces the burden they cause, especially for conditions that are common or not well studied. The focus is on improving how we understand, prevent, diagnose, treat, manage, and cure diseases. Key areas include non-communicable and rare diseases, mental health, antimicrobial resistance, and pandemic preparedness. There is also an emphasis on innovative health technologies, reducing early deaths, and achieving global health targets. Entities from the United States, EU Member States, and other eligible countries can participate.

Admissible Projects

  • Projects must address high-burden medical conditions that are not well understood, diagnosed, or treated, excluding rare diseases already covered elsewhere.
  • Proposals should use a multidisciplinary approach and include stakeholders, such as patient organizations and experts in social sciences and humanities.
  • Eligible projects must involve entities from the United States, EU Member States, or other eligible countries.
  • Projects using earth observation data must use Copernicus and/or Galileo/EGNOS systems, and are encouraged to use existing data sources and biobanks.
  • Clinical studies should be included and use the dedicated annex template.

Examples:

  • A project developing new diagnostic tools for a widespread but understudied chronic disease using clinical studies and patient group involvement.
  • A multidisciplinary research project on mental health, combining social science, medical research, and patient input to improve prevention strategies.
  • An innovation aimed at improving treatment for antimicrobial resistance, using earth observation data and existing health registries.

  • Projects should involve multidisciplinary teams, including relevant stakeholders and experts from various fields.
  • Applicants should follow the requirements for proposal submission, including page limits and templates.
  • Entities from certain non-EU/non-Associated Countries may be eligible if specific provisions are met.
  • Clinical studies must use the dedicated annex template in the application.
