Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to apply regenerative design principles to neighbourhoods, focusing on restoring and revitalizing ecosystems while supporting both human and planetary health. It aims to create sustainable, vibrant environments for local communities, promote biodiversity, and encourage the use of carbon-storing materials. The initiative emphasizes circularity, waste reduction, resource and energy efficiency, and the development of innovative tools and technologies for construction and renovation. Projects should use participatory, inclusive, and transdisciplinary methods and must be demonstrated in diverse neighbourhoods across at least three countries.

Admissible Projects

  • Projects must demonstrate innovative solutions in at least three neighbourhoods, covering urban, peri-urban, and rural areas in at least three different countries.
  • They must use a participatory and transdisciplinary approach, involving public authorities, local communities, civil society, and private owners.
  • Projects should integrate different disciplines such as architecture, urban design, engineering, and health.
  • At least 0.2% of the total project budget must be allocated to share results with the New European Bauhaus hub for results and impact.
  • Projects may provide financial support to third parties, with a maximum of EUR 60,000 per third party.

Example projects:

  • A partnership between architects, engineers, and community groups to retrofit housing in three different types of neighbourhoods, focusing on energy efficiency and biodiversity.
  • A project involving local governments and civil society to create green public spaces using recycled materials in urban, peri-urban, and rural settings across three countries.
  • An initiative where private owners and public authorities collaborate to develop circular construction methods and share results through a European hub.
