Using Generative AI (GenAI4EU ) for Scientific Research via EOSC
Up to 10.000.000€
Description
The main goal of this opportunity is to promote and demonstrate the use of Generative AI in scientific research across Europe. It aims to improve productivity in managing research data, make data more findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR), and enable machine-actionable research data and services. Focus areas include secure and compliant sharing of valuable datasets, piloting AI-driven methods for data quality evaluation, and helping research infrastructures provide AI-ready data in fields such as biology, astronomy, healthcare, and materials science. The scope covers EU Member States, countries associated with Horizon Europe, and some non-EU countries with specific funding provisions.
Admissible Projects
- Projects must follow the page limit and layout rules set by the Horizon Europe guidelines.
- They must include participants from eligible countries or meet special provisions for non-EU/non-Associated Countries.
- Applicants need to show they have the financial and operational ability to carry out the project.
- Projects are evaluated on their coordination with existing projects and with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) governance.
- Beneficiaries must grant royalty-free access to project results for non-commercial use within the EOSC.
- Proposals must align with GenAI4EU objectives, demonstrating Generative AI use for improving research data quality and FAIRness.
Example projects:
- A project that pilots Generative AI tools to automate quality checks for large genomics datasets and shares the results with the EOSC.
- A cross-border consortium developing AI-driven methods to make astronomical data more accessible and reusable for the research community.
- An initiative where healthcare research infrastructures prepare and share AI-ready datasets, ensuring secure and compliant data sharing across Europe.
Eligible Expenses
- Personnel costs for researchers, engineers, and support staff
- Acquisition of data or access to high-value datasets
- Development and deployment of Generative AI tools and software
- Cloud computing and data storage fees (including EOSC trusted repository costs)
- Travel and meeting expenses related to project collaboration
- Workshops, training, and dissemination activities
- Costs for ensuring data compliance and security
- Project management and coordination expenses
- Purchase of equipment needed for data processing
- Preparation and publication of project results
Restrictions: All expenses must fit within the lump sum model and comply with Horizon Europe requirements. Digital research data generated must be deposited in a trusted EOSC repository.
Financial Information
- Budget for this Call: 37.500,000€
- Number of Grants attributed: 4
- Maximum value per project: 10,000,000€
