Description

The main goal of this opportunity is to guide and prepare European High-Performance Computing (HPC) for the post-exascale era. It focuses on the convergence of supercomputing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative aims to develop a high-quality research roadmap for post-exascale HPC/AI, strengthen the European ecosystem in HPC, Quantum, and AI, and ensure alignment with international computing trends. Key focus areas include applications, algorithms, software, hardware, systems, AI-driven HPC as a service, real-time HPC, next-generation AI model training, and the integration of HPC with AI, Quantum, Cloud, and Edge technologies. This opportunity is open to participants from European countries, with certain provisions for non-EU partners.

Admissible Projects

  • Coordination and development of a European roadmap for post-exascale HPC/AI/Quantum research and technology.

  • Stakeholder-driven foresight and strategic planning initiative integrating AI, HPC, quantum, cloud, and edge convergence.

  • Collaborative ecosystem-building action involving key European industrial and scientific actors, including AI Factories and Gigafactories.

  • International coordination activity aligning EU priorities with global post-exascale HPC/AI efforts and standards.

  • Research challenge analysis and policy recommendation platform for European-level actions in next-gen computing.

Examples:

  • A project developing new algorithms for integrating quantum computing into European supercomputers.
  • An initiative designing a roadmap for real-time AI-driven HPC services for scientific research.
  • A collaboration focusing on hardware and software solutions to support next-generation AI model training in Europe.
