The main goal of this grant is to boost the employment of highly qualified professionals, especially PhDs and post-doctorates, in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the Algarve region. The opportunity aims to increase the number of highly skilled staff, support quality and sustainable jobs, and strengthen knowledge exchange within the regional innovation system. Focus areas include supporting innovation strategies that align with Algarve's Smart Specialization Strategy, accelerating digital and energy transitions, and tackling competitiveness through scientific activities and knowledge transfer. This grant specifically targets the NUTS II Algarve area in Portugal.

• Projects must involve the hiring of PhDs or post-doctoral professionals by micro, small, or medium-sized enterprises (PMEs).
• The project must be aligned with the company's innovation strategy and the Algarve's Smart Specialization Strategy (RIS3).
• The new positions must be physically located in the NUTS II Algarve region.
• Salaries for hired professionals must be between €2,188.90 and €3,746.80 for 2025.
• Projects must contribute to knowledge transfer or scientific activities relevant to regional innovation.

• A tech startup in Faro hires a PhD in computer science to lead a digital transformation project.
• A small renewable energy company in Portimão brings on a post-doctoral researcher to develop innovative solar solutions.
• A local food processing SME in Albufeira employs a doctorate in biotechnology to improve product quality and sustainability.

Note: Expenses must comply with the specified minimum and maximum salary thresholds. Only costs directly related to the eligible hires are covered.

• Total budget of the grant: €1,000,000
• Co-financing rate: up to 50%
• Maximum per project: €1,000,000
• Maximum project duration: 36 months
• Other financial details: An initial advance of 10% of the approved amount is available. Reimbursement payments are made after approval of progress and final reports. Non-compliance with communication obligations may reduce funding by up to 3%. Salaries for eligible hires must be between €2,188.90 and €3,746.80.
