Description

This call aims to support projects that enhance resilience to climate change and mitigate associated risks, specifically focusing on the Alentejo region. It aligns with European Climate Adaptation Strategy and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The support includes actions to reduce vulnerabilities, increase awareness, and disseminate information about climate change impacts.

Admissible Projects

  • Projects must be located within the Alentejo region (NUTS II), excluding areas covered by the ITI (Integrated Territorial Investment) Water and Landscape Ecosystems Territory.

  • Projects should directly address one or more climate adaptation challenges in the region, including but not limited to drought mitigation, flood prevention, and the protection of vulnerable territories.

  • Projects must align with the objectives of the European Climate Adaptation Strategy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to climate resilience, sustainable water management, and urban green spaces.

  • Projects should demonstrate a minimum level of maturity. For public works, this includes the submission of detailed project documents, approvals, and necessary authorizations (e.g., environmental permits, land use approvals).

  • The project should incorporate innovative and sustainable practices, such as the use of nature-based solutions, green infrastructure, and energy-efficient building practices.

  • Projects that include an educational or awareness-raising component, such as communication campaigns, training, or public outreach, are highly encouraged.

  • Projects must demonstrate the technical capacity to implement the proposed actions, including the availability of qualified resources, sufficient funding, and adherence to technical standards related to climate change adaptation.

Examples of Eligible Projects:

  • The creation of green spaces using drought-resistant plants to mitigate the urban heat island effect and improve air quality in Alentejo cities.

  • Development and implementation of data models or climate prediction tools that assist local governments in preparing for climate-related risks, such as heatwaves or floods.

  • Educational initiatives aimed at communities in the Alentejo region, informing them about the impacts of climate change and the importance of adaptive strategies like water conservation or flood preparedness.

Eligible Expenses

  • Acquisition of services for studies and project design.

  • Construction and civil engineering works.

  • Acquisition of equipment for information systems, technological tools, and software.

  • Public communication activities related to climate awareness and adaptation.
