I&D Empresarial - Operações Individuais ou em Copromoção – Roteiros Tecnológicos Big Science

This incentive supports R&D projects connected to international Big Science infrastructures (like CERN, ESO, and ESA). It targets Portuguese companies and research institutions to develop advanced technologies, products, or services that can be applied within or derived from collaborations with these major scientific organizations.

• Must contribute to the development of technologies or solutions that respond to needs or opportunities arising from Big Science organizations.

• Projects must be aligned with the national strategy for participation in international scientific infrastructures.

• Can be individual or co-promotion (consortium) projects.

• Must include R&D activities aimed at:

  • Product/process/service development

  • Technological validation

  • Industrial research or experimental development

• Examples of Eligible Projects:

• A company developing cooling systems for CERN detectors.

• A research consortium creating AI-based navigation for ESA satellites.

• An SME collaborating on lightweight composite materials for space telescopes.

• Personnel directly involved in R&D

• Acquisition of instruments, equipment, and software

• Contracted R&D services

• Technology transfer, licensing, and IP protection

• Consumables and materials

• Travel and dissemination costs

• Indirect costs (up to 25% flat rate on eligible direct costs)

Total budget of the grant: €15,000,000

Co-financing rate: Up to 80% 

Maximum value per operation: €2,000,000

Minimum value per operation: €250,000

Eligible Entities:

• Companies of any size legally established in Portugal.

• Research and innovation organizations (e.g. universities, R&D centers).

• Entities may apply individually or as part of a consortium.

Other Conditions:

• Must be aligned with the national roadmap for Big Science infrastructures.

• Must demonstrate technical and financial capacity to implement the project.

• Co-promotion projects require a formal collaboration agreement.
