This opportunity aims to improve resilience, attract people and investments, and diversify the economic and social base by investing in cultural heritage assets, particularly museums. It supports projects that align with strategic development goals, contribute to environmental objectives like climate change mitigation and adaptation, and promote sustainable resource use. Additionally, it emphasizes cultural promotion and social inclusion, encouraging projects that integrate new cultural spaces in degraded areas and complement existing strategies for collective efficiency and social inclusion.

Be promoted by municipalities located in the Centro region (NUTS II).

Focus on the rehabilitation, modernization, or qualification of existing museums—new construction is not eligible.

Involve buildings of municipal interest, especially those classified under heritage laws.

Integrate environmental sustainability measures, such as:

• Energy efficiency
• Emission or noise reduction
• Water use efficiency

Demonstrate a sustainable management and financing model post-intervention.

Have a positive technical opinion from the Direção Regional de Cultura do Centro.

• Rehabilitation of a municipal ethnographic museum, improving accessibility and installing energy-efficient lighting.

• Renovation of a regional history museum housed in a classified building, including digital interactive displays and climate control systems.

• Modernization of a local art gallery, integrating solar panels and sustainable materials.

• Adaptive reuse of a former civic building into a qualified museum space with certified preservation measures and community engagement areas.

• Restoration of a military heritage site, turning it into a museum with improved visitor services and educational programming.

• Architecture and engineering services – Preparation of architectural and engineering plans necessary for the intervention.

• Construction and engineering works – Civil works and structural improvements to existing museum buildings.

• Restoration and conservation – Services related to protecting and preserving classified cultural heritage.

• Price adjustments – Revisions allowed under contract and applicable legislation, based on actual work performed.

• Site supervision and safety coordination – Monitoring of works and compliance with safety standards during implementation.

• Equipment and technology – Purchase of essential equipment, monitoring systems, IT tools, and software required for project implementation.

• Non-recoverable VAT – Only when VAT cannot be reclaimed by the beneficiary.

• Communication and awareness – Actions for information dissemination, publicity, and educational activities linked to the museum’s revitalization goals.

Total budget for the grant: €7,330,157.28

Co-financing percentage: Up to 85% of eligible expenses

Minimum funding per project: €200,000

Maximum funding per project: €500,000

• Be a municipality located in the Centro region (NUTS II).

• Own or manage the museum or cultural building targeted by the intervention.

• Ensure the building is classified or in the process of classification as a property of municipal interest.

• Be in a regular situation regarding tax and social security obligations.

• Have organized accounting 

• Obtain a favorable technical opinion from the Direção Regional de Cultura do Centro for the proposed intervention.
